HOW TO REPORT A SUSPECTED CASE OF ANIMAL CRUELTY OR NEGLECT
Because a report of animal cruelty may result in a criminal investigation, please start by contacting your local police department or animal control division to make a complaint. Keep in mind that although a complaint can be made anonymously, a successful prosecution of a cruelty case often depends on an identifiable witness that may be called upon to testify. Without tips from concerned citizens in our community, many animals would remain in abusive circumstances unable to defend themselves.

Animal cruelty is wrong and against the law in every state. Animal abuse can also be part of a pattern of other violent acts within families and society. Abuse of any kind should be reported to the appropriate authorities immediately.
There’s an animal in my community who isn’t being cared for properly and I don’t know what to do.
There are two general categories of animal neglect: simple neglect and gross, willful, cruel or malicious neglect. Simple neglect (failure to provide basic needs) is not always considered a criminal act, and can often be resolved by the intervention of local animal care and control or humane agencies, which may be able to offer resources and educate offenders on how to provide proper care for their animals.

We will send Outreach Coordinators out to evaluate the situation. During our evaluation we discuss the situation with the pet owner and furnish the pet with necessary supplies to improve their living conditions or will turn over to animal control if the situation warrants neglect charges.
